Consequences of Buying the Wrong Office Lamp

The importance of lighting within an office is an issue that even companies can deal with, highlighting the importance of choosing a good office lamp. Your office lamp's lighting should provide adequate lighting for anything you might do in your office, and so, must properly accomodate your eyes and work needs. With a poor office lamp and bad lighting, you can experience a number of different problems.

First, a bad office lamp that isn't designed to properly illuminate your desk can create a number of dark spots on your desk with insufficient illumination. These areas are known as gloom and can cause a strain on your eyes.

Some fluorescent lights will suffer from a flickering issue in which the oscillation of lights causes a subtle blinking from your office lamp. This can be distracting from your work and could feasibly invoke head aches. As such, it's important that your office lamp uses electronic ballasts rather than magnetic ones.

The intensity of your lighting is important to evaluate. For general reading and writing tasks, a 320 lux horizontal plane is typically considered a minimum while in the vertical, values around 160 lux minimum are considered appropriate. While these are minimum values, it is important to recognize that getting an office lamp that greatly exceeds these values might be overbearing and can make general tasks difficult.

These are just a few factors to consider when preparing to buy a new office lamp. While minor issues, they can significantly sour your general office experience and so, should be thought through before purchasing your next lamp.
