Fluorescent, Incandescent, Halogen and LED Office Lamps
When shopping for a new office lamp, you will be confronted with a variety of statistics that are all important when deciding which office lamp is best for you. Given a lamp's usage of electricity, most of these statistics involve how much of an energy drain office desk lamps are.
Incandescent bulbs: The old school bulbs, incandescent bulbs are liked because they are cheap, safe and simple. Short term, these bulbs are the easiest option as they will cost you the least, but long term, they can be more costly for your lamp. They don't maximize electricity usage, getting less lumens per watt, and they also only last 750 to 1000 hours. As such, if you don't plan on using your office desk lamps much, they might be the best option. But if you're using it regularly, you might want to try some of the other options.
Fluorescent lights: More popular today, fluorescent lights use excited mercury atoms to excite phosphor atoms and light the room. The bulbs keep cool and provide significantly more lumens for far less energy usage compared to the incandescent options. They also work for longer in your office lamps, keeping for 10,000 hours in many cases. However, when buying an office desk lamp, it is important to note that these lights produce a stronger, yellow light which might be difficult on your eyes, especially at a desk. These bulbs also require special disposal methods because of the mercury.
Other available options for office lamps, though significantly less common than the other two are halogen lamps and leds. Halogen lamps are even more energy efficient than fluorescentlights, but they get incredibly hot and can last for less time. LED lights on th other hand don't show any signs of heat and offer the longest lifetime, but can be fairly expensive.
Overall, there are a variety of options when looking to purchase office desk lamps. However, the most common choices are between incandescent bulbs and fluorescent lights.
